CRITICAL RESEARCH METHODS IN STEM HIGHER EDUCATION: A STATE-OF-THE-ART REVIEW

Critical theories and critical research methods have been applied extensively in higher education STEM K-12 education, but to a much lesser extent settings. This state-of-the-art review synthesizes exemplar papers that employ make recommendations for about how certain groups are systematically oppressed Using guidance developed studies around settings, we seek improve the use quality of practice. We provide thick descriptions 22 example that, our opinion, effectively addressed one or more aspects theory relevant education. In doing so, points readers done particularly good job applying some aspect ways resonate with Our list themes is as follows: (a) describing social/historical context oppression; (b) author positionality; (c) engaging empowering participant; (d) consistency approaches theory, methods, discussion; (e) deep explanation race tenets emphasized study; (f) implications disrupt power structures. conclusions directed at researchers who identify disciplines−those colleges science engineering−as well moving into postsecondary
